Ch. Saint Lazar's Serena BBY COM, AMTC BROOD BITCH OF THE YEAR 2008 with Kes, a pup from her second litter when she was residing with Karen & Rex Bristol who provided this nifty photo.  In my heart I knew she had the potential to be an AMTC Brood Bitch of the Year, and now she is. She produced our magnificent Ch. Saint Lazar's Diamonds R Forever, "Diamond", and we intend to repeat that breeding. There is already a waiting list. Thank you again Karen & Rex! Thank you LORD for all the AMTC Brood Bitches of the Year you have blessed us with, no one else is even remotely close. Here is how the LORD gave us such consistent quality time after time.

We have been members of the American Manchester Terrier Club for about 34 years and to the best of my knowledge no one has ever taken a tie from the same kennel with two superb females for Brood Bitch of the Year award. These awards were achieved on merit just doing our normal everyday thing. Of course those in the club know full well that these, and the Stud Dog of the Year award, can be manipulated by "kennel packing" and placing pups with cronies, etc., etc., and they know who and how they are doing it. I am very proud to say that Saint Lazar has never stooped to these despicable tactics, our many, many awards are all won on the un-manipulated merit of the dogs. Thank you LORD for your goodness and mercy.

Champion Saint Lazar's Clarice BBY COM, AMTC BROOD BITCH OF THE YEAR 2008, now owned in Honorable Retirement by Liliana & Dean Murfield, along with her Son, "Nemo", she could not be in a finer home. Thank you folks for this photo taken 12/23/07.

BISS CHAMPION SAINT LAZAR'S TOPAZ with mentor/handler Patricia Hall of Warminister, PA and Judge James Reynolds, at the AMTC National Specialty in OKC 6-25-09

BISS CHAMPION SAINT LAZAR'S TOPAZ

The only Manchester Terrier, Toy or Standard, ever to take a Best in Show as a puppy, from the 6 to 9 Mo. Puppy Class no less, is now a full fledged AKC Champion of record as of June 25, 2009.

A quite moment at Oklahoma City last week, and a nice candid photo by Gene Caron of BISS Ch. Saint Lazar's Topaz and our friend, and her Mentor, Patricia Hall. Wanda and I could not be more pleased with the way these two have "connected". Pat has been a Manchester Breeder & Exhibitor for several decades and has turned out some super nice dogs. Pat is one of the "good guys" on the AMTC Board of Directors, and we are very fortunate to have her uncompromising commitment to excellence in the affairs of the Club.

STANDARD MANCHESTER

Standard Manchester - Ch. Saint Lazar's Ring of Fire - "Cash". This magnificent boy was bred by Wanda & Charles Walker, and was given to our very good friend, Dr. Roger Travis, on a co-ownership back in 2006. Roger was off finishing Medical School, so Wanda and I took Cash to the AMTC National Specialty and related shows in Lincoln, NE in September of 2006. Wanda easily put a 5 Point Major on him his first time in a show ring. He was clearly the best Class dog there, but I assure you there was plenty of "sour grapes". Dr. Travis placed Cash with a "Handler" who basically just let him languish. When Roger finished up with Med School and got his practice going, he got Cash back out showing again. The result being a magnificent win under extremely well known Manchester Terrier Judge, Ed Bivin, in Oklahoma City this past week as Best of Winners, giving Cash his AKC Championship. Best of Winners means that he defeated every non Champion entered. Saint Lazar dogs or 100% Saint Lazar genes, took a Best of Winners all four days in OKC. Judge Bivin was effusive in his complementary remarks to Wanda & Roger during the photo session. The above photo was taken this morning, Monday, June 29th just before Roger headed for his Chatham, VA home. Cash is right on 18 lbs., and he is a flawless "mover". I would not change one thing about this fine boy. We again thank our LORD for continuing to bless us with the finest Manchester Terriers on Planet Earth.

PLEASE NOTE - SAINT LAZAR DOES NOT OFFER STANDARD MANCHESTERS FOR SALE, ONLY TOYS.

CHERRY PUPS

We took the pups from Cherry this morning, Monday, June 29th for weaning. They took to the pen on the kitchen floor straight away and promptly wore there selves out playing. The boy is in the center with his back to the camera, and that's the little gal lying upside down in front of him. The other 2 girls are on the left & right. These are typical Cherry babies, very pretty and super outgoing temperaments.

NOTE: ALTHOUGH WE MAKE A "BIG DEAL" ABOUT SHOW QUALITY, THE FACT IS 99% OF OUR PUPS GO TO PET HOMES, AND TO FAMILIES WHO APPRECIATE QUALITY. OUR PUPS COST NO MORE THAN THOSE FROM PLACES THAT GIVE NO THOUGHT OR STUDY TO THE BREEDING PROCESS. READ THIS PLEASE.

RAISIN PUPS

The photo above is not the best, but when your Chief Assistant is at dog shows, one does the best he can. These guys are whoppers at 17 days of age, Raisin's milk is like Miracle Grow. They have had their eyes open for about 5 days now, and are beginning to notice their surrounding. Of course they mostly eat, sleep, and make fertilizer at this age. They are so healthy that they are about the same size as the little Cherry girl below. One may ask, "are they Standards"? Could be but I doubt it. The lineage behind them is mostly well within the 12 lb. Toy limit, but sometimes genes will fool you. Their sire is 100% Saint Lazar, and he is small, and his lineage is within size. Diamond Lil's second litter, the one that produced our Best In Show girl, BISS Saint Lazar's Topaz, was huge like these pups, but Topaz is only about 9 lbs, and the other 2 just a bit more. Honestly, I love to see robust healthy pups like these, and we couldn't ask for a better mother than Raisin.

CHERRY BABY GIRL

This is the little Cherry girl born 5/22. She is about 3/5ths the size of her 3 siblings and we have been supplementing her with goats milk to insure she gets plenty to eat. Of course you only have to feed them about 2 times and they are spoiled rotten. That little tail is up and wagging when she sees me come to get her out of the puppy bassinette. It takes her about ten seconds to woof down her portion, so I had to be quick with the camera. She is standing on a towel over the grill in the kitchen island. She is perfectly marked and has a great coat, and her attitude is all terrier. When Wanda gets back from the AMTC National Specialty in Oklahoma City this week, we will take Cherry from them and the weaning process will start. (6-25-09)

A FINE NEW SHOW HOME

Our friend Madonna Lee of Cocoa Beach, Florida shown above with her new show boy, Saint Lazar's Shiloh. There is nobody better than Madonna in training and presenting a TMT, and I am sure we will be hearing of some nice wins in the near future. We appreciate Madonna and we expect this fine boy to be a great asset to her breeding program. She called Monday afternoon after getting back home with Shiloh, and she said he walked right in and greeted her husband and son like he had always been there. He checked out the other dogs, promptly ate the Chinese Crested (joke) and seemed to be fine with her resident crew. Shiloh's pedigree contains at least 3 former AMTC Stud Dogs of the Year, the non-purchased kind, and numerous Hall of Fame members. I don't know where Madonna could have done as well, genetically, as this boy.

   I'M READY FOR SHOWTIME!

Saint Lazar's Errol Flynn - Age 3.5 months (6-9-09)

NEW BABIES

Saint Lazar's Raisinette, AKA Raisin & Sorry Dog, had her pups early this morning, 6-7-09, and the 2 girls and 1 boy are doing fine. This is her first litter, and GOD love her, she knew just what to do, as is normal, and she is taking great care of them. She is not a "Sorry Dog", that's just a tease that she answers to.

One of the pleasures of maintaining our web site is posting photos we receive of pups we have sent around the world. The ten month old gal pictured above is "Tulip", who we sent to Tamara Norrbom in California earlier this year. Tulip was the smallest in the litter, but according to the reports we have received from Tamara, she is now the largest. Tamara has had Toy Manchesters for a long time, formerly having a gal that lived to be 19 years of age. She is currently on our waiting list for a companion for Tulip, and Wanda and I could not be more pleased. This an outstanding photo Tamara, my compliments to the photographer. See Tulip below.

Tamara just returned from a trip to Yosemite National Park and white water rafting in Northern California, plus a visit to the wine country. This is a magnificent photo, and you can see Tulip standing on the retaining wall. If Wanda and I come "into money", a trip to this beautiful area is at the top of the list. That is assuming our legs will still carry us. That's a joke LORD, we have no complaints with the many blessings you have bestowed on us.

When you look at those demeanors and teeth, it's hard to believe that this is just normal Toy Manchester playing. All the dogs love to zoom and play hard after they have their supper. This evening I let the Lil pups out and they are running wide open, including Flynn on the former broken leg. In fact none in the litter can catch him. The pair above are Grace O'Malley (left) and Fletcher Christian (right). A split second after this photo, they jumped up and took off for another circuit. LORD how I love em, thanks a million!

Saint Lazar's Shiloh (left) having a little tug of war session with Berry/Patootie on a nice mid 80's Sunday afternoon. Every time he lies down to relax, she comes over and bugs him to play. With his long legs he easily leaves her in the dust.

Diamond Lil / Zander pups. Left to right top, Fletcher Christian, Tiara, Errol Flynn, Gracie O'Malley, and bottom, the Texas Terror. We took Fletcher and Flynn to Petsmart in Conyers, GA yesterday, "D Day", for an outing, and boy were they the hit of the Saturday crowd. This was only Fletcher's third time on a show lead and he did not buck, snort, chew his lead, or meet a stranger. This was Flynn's 2nd visit, and just like his first visit, he wanted to be petted by everybody. Wanda is going to have to threaten me with divorce and still I don't think I will part with either of these boys. We then walked next door to Home Depot and of course you have to hold them in your arms there, but again they got petted to death, and made over by everyone, and we almost forgot we went in there for bird suet. If I were petty, I would say "eat your heart out CH", but I am not, and I wont say that. JADE grandbabies Margie!

THANK YOU GRACIOUS LORD FOR THIS MOST MAGNIFICENT LITTER!

A fine montage by Gene Caron

I hate to call a boy "pretty" but that certainly applies to littermates, Saint Lazar's Errol Flynn (L) & Fletcher Christian (R). Maybe "outrageously handsome" is more appropriate. Who has better than these two?

WHAT ARE THESE TWO UP TO?

I don't know, but it's a cinch they look like they just had their hand/paw in the cookie jar. Some viewers will recognize the Herd Master/Montage Maestro, Gene Caron as one of the usual suspects. The other is the much "montaged" Saint Lazar's Errol Flynn. Gene & Debbie came over Memorial Day to break bread with us, and for he and I to just generally plot mischief. For those of you that don't know, in addition to his many other talents, Gene is not a half bad cook, and I say that as one who is married to the World's Best. Being from Louisiana, his cuisine is "spicy" but not in the Mexican sense, but in the sense of just plain good. Wanda and I are very grateful for the friendship of these fine folks and their 5 Toy Manchester Terriers. By the way, Flynn's leg has healed to the point he had some running and chasing time with the Caron Herd, which was enjoyed by all. And last, I will upload Tuesday a new batch of "Errol Flynn" montages that Gene has sent us featuring that black & tan creature in his left arm.

BEAR CREEK'S ULTIMATE TSUNAMI. RN137589/02. 04/21/2007. BREEDER: Patsy A Haslam. By Bearcreek Sir Ebony McBrutus-Bear Creek's Suzie Q. OWNER: Kelly McClellan.

For those visitors who don't follow dog shows, the above is part of the Internet posting of the results of the Judging at the dog show in Jackson, TN. The significance of this posting is to show how low the American Manchester Terrier Club has sunk. The breder, Patsy Haslam, is about as notorious "a puppy mill" as one can find in the USA. She is known to a number of prominent AMTC breeder members as such. The "Owner" above is non other than the current President of the AMTC, Kelly McClellan. This is Kelly's way of extending her middle finger to the decent AMTC members, yes there are a very few, and to the AMTC By-Laws which are very clear that this conduct is beyond the pale. You will never find Saint Lazar lending it's name in any way to this despicable business.

This is a puppy mill dog. Do you see even a tiny resemblance in conformation to the dogs pictured on this web site, dogs produced as a result of over forty years of hard work and intense genetic study?

BISS Saint Lazar's Topaz - Best In Show at the tender age of 9 months, a feat never accomplished by a Toy Manchester Terrier. Topaz was entered and mentored by our friend Patricia Hall of Warminster, PA. This win would not have happened without Pat's keen interest in Topaz, and Wanda & Charlie are deeply appreciative. Topaz was presented in the ring by Marcello Chargas, shown above. Topaz defeated several BIS dogs including a Pekinese that 3 weeks previously had taken BIS's 3 weekends straight, including one over 2400 dogs in Perry, GA. She defeated 6 dogs ranked in the top ten of their breed, 2 of them being ranked #1. We are grateful to Judge Sharon Newcomb who has applied herself so diligently to learning the Manchester Terrier Bred Standard, a dedication to excellence rarely seen in Judges today. Judge Newcomb recognized Topaz's Line Bred excellence and Judged her from the Puppy Class all the way to Best In Show. Thank you LORD for this wonderful girl! (In answer to the many questions, she is a "London Blue" Topaz)

Flynn's sister Saint Lazar's Grace O'Malley. Plenty of spunk and we are keeping her right here. She looks very much like her Grandmother, Ch. Saint Lazar's Jade MCOM at this stage of her development. I could not be happier, right Margie!

Here is the whole Diamond Lil / Zander litter playing with the frisbee. What fun they are to watch

J.R. Is Challenge Dog Winner In Australia

Montage by Gene Caron

Am. Ch. Saint Lazar's J.R. Ewing, now owned by Paige Sanders, Yurrugar English Toy Terriers, in Australia, has started off toward his Australian Championship with a "bang" and his first points. He took "Challenge Dog" and was Runner UP Best of Breed, which in AKC terminology is Best of Opposite Sex.

Information below provided by Gene Caron

JR's Australian Show debut....

April shows 2009 - Easter Festival All Breeds Championship Show (April 12th). Yet another best of breed win for Fizz. This was the first show in Australia for our USA import, Am Ch Saint Lazar's JR Ewing. JR had not been shown for a while, but went so well. He worked a treat and took out runner up best of breed after winning the dog challange and getting the first points towards his Australian Championship title.

New to Yurrugar English Toy Terriers. We are pleased to announce the arrival to Australia of American Champion Saint Lazar's JR Ewing and Saint Lazar's She's Relentless. Both are bred in the absolute "purple" and are themselves exceptional examples of the breed. Bred by Charles and Wanda Walker of the world famous Saint Lazar Kennel, JR and Renee are the first and only USA imports to Australia. Both are most wonderful additions to our team and we are sure that they will be a huge asset to our future breeding program as well as our current show team. A huge thank you Charles and Wanda for sending us these wonderful dogs! "Progress is impossible without change; and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything". George Bernard Shaw.

Paige also has a nice write up on JR and Renee

Saint Lazar's Raspberry Pie, AKA Sweet Patootie

WELCOME HOME DIAMOND!

Ch. Saint Lazar's Diamond's R Forever, "Diamond", is back home after a tour on the show circuit with Aubrey Richardson one of the premier Junior Handlers in the Nation. Aubrey has other obligations now, plus we are ready to introduce Diamond into the breeding program. It will probably be another five months or so before she is bred, but now is the time to get on the waiting list. Gracious, I have missed this beautiful gal, she is a "Charlie" girl, loves my lap.

WINNERS DOG 2 DAYS!

Saint Lazar's More Than Words, "Webster" went Winners Dog and Best of Opposite Sex at Perry, GA Thursday 5/7/09. He was Winners Dog again Friday, 5/8. Wanda & I were able to go to Perry today to pick up Diamond, and at the same time see our friend, Lani Minor, present Webster. We co-own Webster with Lani, and he is the brother of our Saint Lazar's Garnet, and Zandi Spicer's Saint Lazar's Spiceisle Diamond Jack. Here it comes, this kind of quality does not come except by carefully planned breeding, and then only with many years of experience.

BEST IN SHOW AT AGE 9 MONTHS
FROM THE PUPPY CLASS!

Wow, it was a super weekend, a Best In Show win the like of which has never happened, a TMT puppy whipping nationally ranked Toys, Best in Show Dogs at that. These kind of wins are exceeding rare in the "business" of dog showing. So many Judges have come up through the Professional Handler ranks, and believe me they know who owns, and who shows the dogs they judge, and they place them accordingly. But then there is the rare individual like Sharon Newcomb who knows the breeds she is authorized to Judge, knowledge that is much greater in depth than that meager amount the AKC requires. She puts up the dog, not the owner or handler. Charlie showed under her at the Atlanta KC a couple of years back and she gave Raisinette a big win. The next day she approached Wanda and I and asked us to critique her Judging. We had a very pleasant conversation and we were very careful to objectively represent the Manchester Breed Standard. We have subsequently learned how respected Judge Newcomb is in dog circles. Wouldn't it be fun to show under more Judges like that. 25 years ago that was the norm. Topaz is likely to take some more nice wins, but we are not naive enough to think that an "unadvertised" TMT will set the woods on fire. On the other hand the LORD has a nifty sense of humor, maybe he will jolt again those detractors who are presently "eating cake". Thanks again Pat Hall!

Thank you Gene Caron for the super montage!

BISS Saint Lazar's Topaz, owned by Wanda & Charles Walker of Saint Lazar, Mentored by Pat Hall of Warminster, PA, went Best In Show at the prestigious Delaware Valley Toy Dog Fanciers Association show May 1, 2009 in NJ under esteemed Judge Sharon Newcomb. Topaz prevailed in the Toy Group over a multiple Best in Show Pekinese who defeated well over 2000 dogs in Perry, GA three weeks ago. Topaz, who is visiting with our good friend Pat Hall, and who was entered under Pat's supervision, was very ably handled by Marcello Chargas. Wanda and I are extremely grateful to Pat for her mentoring Topaz. We are more especially grateful to OUR LORD JESUS for intrusting these fine little creatures to our care, and for his continual blessing of our Planned Breeding Program.

NOTE: THE MAGNITUDE OF TOPAZ'S WIN IS SIMPLY STAGGERING FOR ANY TOY MANCHESTER TERRIER, MUCH LESS A PUPPY. HER FEAT HAS NEVER BEEN ACCOMPLISHED BY ANY TMT. BASED ON STATISTICS PROVIDED BY OUR DEAR FRIEND, GENE CARON, MONTAGE MASTER EXTRAORDINAIRE, TOPAZ DEFEATED 22 BREEDS INCLUDING 15 CHAMPIONS OF RECORD. SIX OF THESE ARE RANKED IN THE TOP TEN OF THEIR BREED, AND TWO ARE RANKED #1 IN THEIR BREED. MY GRACIOUS LORD YOU ARE GOOD! I SERIOUSLY DOUBT JUDGE NEWCOMB WILL EVER GET ANOTHER JUDGING ASSIGNMENT (JOKE). IF THIS DOESN'T SPEAK TO TOPAZ'S QUALITY AND THE EFFICACY OF PLANNED BREEDING, THEN I GUESS THE WORLD REALLY IS FLAT.

BLOOD WILL TELL

Topaz's Sire is an AMTC Stud Dog of the Year, Ch. Saint Lazar's Strikes Back SDY COM (Striker), her Dam is Ch. Saint Lazar's Diamond Lil AOM, an Award Of Merit winner, who is from a litter of all Champions. Her Grandmother is Ch. Saint Lazar's Jade MCOM a multiple Certificate Of Merit winner for consistently producing Champions, and her Grandfather, Ch. Saint Lazar's Lance HOF SDY COM is an AMTC Hall of Fame member, Stud Dog of the Year, and a Certificate of Merit winner. Her Great-Grandsire is Ch. Saint Lazar's Klay HOF SDY SMSDY, the greatest Toy Manchester stud dog ever, is a Hall of Fame member, Stud Dog of the Year, Sire Of Multiple Stud Dogs of the Year, and another Great-Grandsire is Ch. Saint Lazar's Ace Ventura SDY SSDY, a Stud Dog of the Year, and a Sire of Stud Dog of the Year. We can go on further back, but it's more of the same. This is why her quality and "ring presence" should be no surprise. She is a result of "Planned Breeding", there is no guesswork in her lineage. This is why Saint Lazar is frequently maligned by those who simply can't produce anywhere near the consistent quality of this fine little gal.

THANK YOU PAT!

To Official AMTC List:

Wanted to share with everyone that St Lazars Topaz went BEST IN SHOW at the Delaware Valley Toy Dog Fanciers Association from the puppy class!

Topaz was sent up here for me to show and due to a judging conflict I was unable to show her.

Marcello Chargas covered her for me.

She defeated several Best In Show dogs.

Thanks Charlie and Wanda for trusting us with this little gem!!!!

Pat Hall

Topaz & Mentor Pat Hall savoring the moment with BIS Rosette

NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY - Three weeks ago David Fitzpatrick handled a fine Pekinese to a BIS in Perry, GA. This was the Peke's 3rd BIS in three weeks. There were about 2400 dogs defeated by the Peke in Perry. I met David at ringside and watched him show the Peke to BOB and got to meet his Alabama owner. David then took Topaz from me and transported her to Pat Hall in Pennsylvania for her visit and mentorship under Pat. David reportedly said after taking a 2nd Place in the Toy Group behind Topaz today, "I'm not bringing any more Saint Lazar dogs north". David is a fine Handler and we appreciate his graciousness and kindness.

Obviously Garnet is following in her mother's paw steps. We have never bred a finer pair than these two, and this was only Amethyst's first litter!

Montage by Gene Caron

Isn't the resemblance in Garnet, above, and her Cousin Morganite uncanny. Nope, not a bit, this is a result of 40 years of Toy Manchester breeding experience and carefully planned "line breeding" using the well proven principles of the late genius, Mr. Lloyd C. Brackett. We don't "roll the dice" at Saint Lazar, but we carefully consider each mating. As I have written before, does it go 100% flawless, no, but the percentage of success and consistency is unrivaled. Thank you LORD! (It's hard to beat Canon "L" lens for consistent quality also. All four of the above photos were captured using our 70-200mm f:/4L Canon lens)

Consistency of quality

EASTER PUPPY PICTURES

Wanda made us a light lunch right after we got home from Church and then she said she would go get the Diamond Lil - Zander pups from the kennel and help me get some photos. They will be seven weeks old tomorrow, 4/13. We normally keep pups in the house to about 8 to 9 weeks of age, but we have had to be away from home so much lately that we have kept them in the kennel. We have plenty of room and they are perfectly safe and comfortable. Plus they are eating like horses and the "cleanup" task is much easier in the kennel. Anyway, she started out to get the pups and she discovered they had figured out how to get out the "door" into their concrete exterior run. They were enjoying the sun and having a good time, but I think this is the earliest that we remember pups coming out on their own. Wanda couldn't resist taking them to the front yard for their first yard play time . You can see the result above. For years I have bragged on the temperament of our guys and gals and how much of it is attributed to genetics, but there is no doubt we have outdone ourselves with this litter, they are very exuberant. I can't remember a more outgoing litter than this in the past forty years. They are brothers and sisters to our Morgan who took a big show win in Perry, GA yesterday, but a different litter of course.  Thank you LORD for this fine bunch!

ANOTHER BEST IN SHOW FROM THE "OLD" DAYS

The very nice boy shown above with Pam DeHetre is Ch. Saint Lazar's Monterrey Jack. this photo is from 1986, and Jack & Pam got a Best In Show on this show circuit. Jack is the boy who, at barely age 6 months, went Best of Winners from the Puppy Class at the two AKC Centennial Shows in Philadelphia in the Fall of 1984. His littermate, Ch. Saint Lazar's Romano, went Winners Bitch both days. The Judges were William "Billy" Kendick, who also Judged at the Fiftieth Anniversery AKC show, and Frank Sabella, who also gave Jack Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Variety. There has never been a win of this caliber before, and there will not be again. As a side note. Pam is now an AKC licensed Judge, and she did not have to get her license at Dollar General as is now the norm for most Judges. Pam knows dogs, and is a fine gal. It is so sad that the jerks that were in charge at the American Manchester Terrier Club prevented her from rejoining the club after she inadvertently failed to get her dues in on time. I will soon be posting a "mea culpa" about my support for some of current regime. There does not seem to be any possibility of them doing the "right thing" about Pam when they tolerate a President who has consistently thumbed her nose at the ethics of the AMTC, and a Treasurer who has the best documented record of "kennel packing" in the AMTC.  Jacks ashes rest in peace on the mantle at Pam's home. He was a great dog, but if you look at the photos on these pages, you will see that 25 years later, we are currently producing TMT's superior to Jack. See Connor below.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of breeding Toy Manchester Terriers is making new friends all over the Planet, and then receiving photos of the guys and gals we send to new homes. The little fellow pictured above, was born on Wanda's and myself 47th wedding anniversary, that is Oct. 13, 2008. He is a Pris and Zander pup, and his name is Cooper. His new pal is "Diva". Believe it or not, the first two dogs that Wanda and I owned after we were married were Weimaraners. Mom and Dad were not breeding TMT's any longer, so I wanted one of these great dogs. Cooper & Diva are owned by Steven Friedman, of Saint Petersburg, Florida. Thanks Steven for this very nifty photo!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Although the membership and Board of Directors of the American Manchester Terrier Club has given it's blessing to commercial intercourse with puppy mills by it's members and Officers, Saint Lazar has not, and will not, engage in that despicable business. The same has also condoned flagrant "kennel packing" by members and Officers. Saint Lazar has not, and will never condone nor engage in that repugnant activity.

A NEW MURRY STORY
Longtime visitors, and there are a bunch, will recall that we had a "Murry Page" for several years. Our friend, Bob Lazar of Richmond, VA, purchased a male Toy from us about five years ago, and he subsequently sent us several stories about Murry and his interaction with the Lazar family. Now we have a new essay from Bob and I have resurrected the Murry page and added Bob's latest story. Click here to go to the Murry Page. Thanks a million Bob!

The results of Saint Lazar "Planned Breeding"

TWO PRETTY GIRLS!

The problem with Grandchildren is that they grow up. Samantha (19) used to come see or stay with us frequently, but now she is out of school and working, we don't see her too often. So I don't get take photos of her and pups much anymore. She is here today with her mother, our Daughter, Dawn, to bring Wanda a birthday present. Some things never change though, she went straight to the puppies in the house and started petting each of them. I happened to have my background muslin and studio strobes set up, so I persuaded her to pose for me. Are not these two pretty young gals? (12-14-08) (Camera Canon EOS 40D, 3  Alien Bee 800 strobes, Exposure set to manual 1/125 second at f/11, ISO 100, color balance 5900 Kelvin manually set, with a Amvona provided 10' x 12' "Tempanillo" muslin backdrop.)

"Wanda, please don't pull my tail!"

Saint Lazar Receives Six Certificates Of Merit
Saint Lazar received six Certificates Of Merit from the American Manchester Terrier Club for 2007 for Dogs & Bitches who produced two or more AKC Chamions, they are;
Ch. Saint Lazar's Raisin Alex COM
Ch. Saint Lazar's Strikes Back SDY COM
Ch. Saint Lazar's Raisin Pie HOF COM SSDY
Ch. Saint Lazar's Jasper Jeep COM
Ch. Saint Lazar's Indiana Jones COM
Ch. Saint Lazar's Jade MCOM

I think a comment is in order concerning the above acronyms. The latest fad is place is to place an acronym before or after a dogs name if it breaths. Used to be before dog showing became a "business", the only abbreviations used were for Champion (Ch.) or Obedience Titles (a great accomplishment and honor). Then we began to see HOF, which means American Manchester Terrier Club Hall of Fame member. Saint Lazar has numerous members. Then came Certificate of Merit (COM), ad infinitum. We can't be outdone at Saint Lazar, so we have added to the list, we have this right since everyone else does it, so we have Stud Dog of the Year (SDY), of which we have had many, SSDY (Sire of Stud Dog of the Year) because it's his genes that caused his Son to be a SDY, SMSDY (Sire of Multipe Stud Dogs of theYear) as in Klay who, as the most outstanding TMT Stud dog ever (Lance might argue), has produced multiple Stud Dogs of the Year , MCOM (Mutiple Certificates of Merit), all of which hardly anyone else has done. I am sure next time one of our puppy guys learns to hike his leg, we will come up with something for that, probably HHL. We are rightly proud of the accomplishments of our guys and gals, but all of this is just to impress the non-cognoscenti. The fancy knows who produces what, and GOD has blessed Saint Lazar more than we can ask or even think.

Ch. Saint Lazar's Klay HOF SDY SMSDY (11/15/93 - 12/7/08) - The finest Toy Manchester Terrier stud dog ever, period! His son, Ch. Saint Lazar's Ace Ventura SDY SSDY, is a Stud Dog of The Year, and he in turn sired a Stud Dog of the Year, Ch. Saint Lazar's Lance HOF SDY COM, who is already a Hall Of Fame member. Take a look at the photo above of Klay in his younger days, he passed to the bosom of the LORD on 12/7/08, and then take a look at this years Best of Variety winner at the American Manchester Terrier Club National Specialty, who is his son, and you will see a living example of a genetically "dominant" stud dog.

TOY MANCHESTER PICTORIAL BOOK AVAILABLE

We have just published an 8 X 10 hard cover book with dust jacket entitled SAINT LAZAR TOY MANCHESTER TERRIERS. It is available for order from www.blurb.com. It is a reprise of some of the photos that have appeared on our web page, but with some not seen before, all with captions, plus some commentary text. The front cover is shown above. This is a "vanity" book and a test of self-publishing, but we will be following in a few months with a much more comprehensive publication entitled THE DEFINITIVE TOY MANCHESTER TERRIER, which will cover all aspects of the Toy Manchester Terrier. We are striving to see that it will be useful for new owners, current owners, and those who may simply appreciate a quality book covering the Toy Variety. Note: We received our copy of the hard bound version with dust cover today, 5-21-08, and Wanda and I are most pleased with the quality of Blurb's work. Also we appreciate the orders for the book, and the large number of visits to the book page at Blurb. Thanks folks! Now that we know Blurb is a quality printer, we will forge ahead with THE DEFINITIVE TOY MANCHESTER TERRIER.

Saint Lazar's Raisinette gives Granddaughter Lauren Walker (13) a big welcome kiss. Lauren has come to spend the night with her Grandparents. Raisin is going to be a "mother" in June 09.

CONSIDERING A NEW PUP? READ THIS.

There have been forty-seven new Championships of record earned by Saint Lazar, and Saint Lazar owners since 12/04, and well over 200 the past 40 years, and there are about to be several more. Whether your interest is in showing, or you just want a quality companion dog, then you would be well served to talk to a show kennel, regardless of which breed you like. Show people who are members of the parent breed club, such as the American Manchester Terrier Club, are the folks to consult. Ideally, they will have a medium to large size kennel, as that is where you find the healthy gene pools, and the superior socialization.  Investigate carefully, be sure you are considering someone who has a "planned" line breeding program, and can show you their documented breeding "plan" for several future generations. Ask to see the kennel facility, and both parents of the pup you might be considering. Also beware of "newspaper" ads and the proverbial backyard breeders. Saint Lazar did not become the #1 Breeder by "random" matings, we always have a plan. Visitors are frequent at Saint Lazar, and you are welcome too.

Saturday, 2-16-08, was a fine 70 degree time, and I had some of our guys and gals out of the kennel runs to play and get petted. There are at least 3 males in the 10 enjoying the sun above. Luke, J.R. Ewing, and Striker. We even have a female in heat, yet these fellows are so well disciplined and well tempered, there is no problem. But, I still keep an eye on them. I later rotated two more batches out for fun and petting. You will not find better than these on the Planet.

Those magnificent creatures pictured in our yard above did not happen by accident. They are the result of forty years of breeding experience and a careful adherence to the principles of "planned breeding". If you are looking for the very best Toy Manchester Terrier available, not the most expensive, but the best, you would be well served to take a moment to read the quotation below.

A QUOTATION FROM LLOYD C. BRACKETT - THE FATHER OF "PLANNED BREEDING".

"In the dog game those who criticize the system of line breeding far outnumber its proponents. This is true for several reasons. There is a continual influx of beginners in breeding dogs, people who have never before mated one animal to another, or made any study of the subject. In their ignorance they believe that mating two dogs with "pedigrees", especially if both are winners, or better yet, "Champions", is all there is to it. Then, there are a multitude of breeders who refuse to take the time to make any study of genetics, who want only to breed dogs to sell and make money, and these have no interest in breed improvement through years of planned effort. Again, we have the many hit-or-miss breeders who hope for the good luck which sometimes strikes novices who by sheer accident come up with a real "topper" or two. In listing the opponents of closed-up breeding, one should not fail to mention owners of stud dogs, hungry for stud fees.

Fortunately there are in almost all breeds of dogs a very few fanciers intent upon consistently producing dogs superior to the average of the breed. Many of these know that the quickest and most certain way to do this is by line breeding".

SAINT LAZAR'S RECORD OF LINE BREEDING, CONSISTENTLY PRODUCING DOGS "SUPERIOR TO THE AVERAGE OF THE BREED" WHETHER FOR PET OR SHOW, IS WITHOUT PEER, THANKS TO MR. BRACKETT.

SAINT LAZAR IS A NON-COMMERCIAL "HOBBY" BREEDER

I have been training the show dogs to open their mouths for the Judges to examine their teeth and bite. All I need to do  now is get them to stand up and "stack" when they open up. Luke (left) has just lost a baby tooth, you can see the red socket where it has just fallen out. That's Honey on the right. Aren't those great choppers!

Winning is "old hat" at Saint Lazar. While poking around in the garage, I came across a box with the above awards. From the back right are American Manchester Terrier Club awards reading "Top Winning Toy Manchester Terrier", 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983. Then Kasandra went on to win the one on the front right, 1984 "Top Brood Bitch". The one on the left is for 1984 "Top Stud Dog Toy". No, we didn't breed either of these dogs, we went to the top kennel in the nation, and purchased these fine creatures. By 1981, using the best genes available, and carefully planning our matings, Saint Lazar was the top Toy kennel in the nation, and has never looked back. To produce the finest Toy Manchesters in the world takes a "plan", not just willy nilly breeding a bitch in heat to any available dog. It's the genes that count, not the "show" record, which can be, and is so often purchased in this day and time. There are several more boxes in the garage with similar awards over the past decades.

It's Friday night near 10 PM and Honey, Raisin, and Luke have exhausted themselves playing, zooming through the den and kitchen, growling and carrying on something fierce. Finally they have snuggled up against Wanda who is reading a book on the den sofa. One last visit outside to the pine straw, and in our beds we go. I can't believe we have three dogs in the house.

MORE OLDIES
(Click on photos for larger size)

We appreciate the emails we get expressing how much folks enjoy seeing the "old" TMT photos. They bring back great memories for us great-grandparents. The above photo is of our eldest child, Dawn Walker Hunter, now age 50. This is summer of 1967, and that is Idyl Dale Acres Georgia Girl in her lap. "Georgia" came from Karla Christman of McHenry, IL. My dad loaned me $100 to buy her, and we drove to McHenry on July 4th, 1967 and got her at age 6 mo. We were living in Indianapolis at the time.

This is child number 2, Charlotte Walker Rogers, who is now a 44 yr old grandmother with four grandsons. "Georgia" took to our family like a duck to water, and we loved her dearly. Unfortunately, she was a terrible whelper, and not many of her pups survived. Georgia was responsible for us learning the hard way that it is essential to know the gene pool from which you obtain a puppy. These photos were taken with my Minolta Autochord Twin Lens Reflex. I am certain I used Kodak Verichrome Pan processed 1:1 in Microdol in my basement darkroom. These are from prints I made with my Besseler 23C enlarger. Man do I love digital, but it was fun watching those prints come up in the developer.
