BEAUTIFUL CHERRY/ZORRO PUP AVAILABLE

PLEASE NOTE THAT TO BOY ON THE LEFT WAS SOLD TODAY, SUNDAY 2/7/10 - The boy on the right pictured above was born Dec. 11, 2009 is available to a pet home. Their parents are Ch. Saint Lazar's Zorro & Ch. Saint Lazar's Cherry Pie. These boys have 3 AMTC Stud Dogs of the Year, and 2 Brood Bitches of the Year, and bunches of Hall of Fame members in their pedigree. We refer to their wonderful dense coats as "Ace" coats, which Ch. Saint Lazar's Ace Ventura SDY SSDY usually generated on pups descended from him. They will also no doubt have the superb temperament that Zorro, Ace, Klay, Action Jackson, and a bunch of others in their pedigree usually produce. There is not a Manchester Breeder on this planet that can approach the lineage of these handsome fellows. Thank you LORD for these beautiful boys! Call us at (706) 468-0220 for SPECIAL PET PRICING.

SOLD FEB. 5, 2010

SOLD IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS FROM BEING MADE AVAILABLE ON OUR WEB PAGE TO A VERY ASTUTE PURCHASER! - The magnificent 3 month old girl pictured above is available to a qualified show home. She was born October 20, 2009, and her Dam is our AMTC Brood Bitch Of The Year, Ch. Saint Lazar's Serena BBY. Her Sire is our outstanding producer of the finest pups, Ch. Saint Lazar's Alexandrite (Zander).  We have her sister, Ch. Saint Lazar Diamonds R Forever from Serena's first litter, and I personally believe this pup is probably better than Diamond, who had a sterling show career. I think with the proper training and presentation, this gal can decimate the TMT competition in the show ring. I can safely say this, there is not a pup currently available in the USA who can equal the lineage of this little gal. Wanda believes she will mature to be about 10.5 lbs., which I personally think is perfect. We would be happy to discuss this gal with you personally. Please call (706) 468-0220 (photo taken 2/3/10)

SNOOP IS LIKE A TSUNAMI IN HONG KONG!
Toy Group 4 & Group 1

153rd & 154th HONG KONG ALL BREED SHOWS JAN. 17, 2010

Ch. Saint Lazar's BiggDogg Snoop wowed the Fancy at the Hong Kong 153rd and 154th All Breed Dogs shows on January 17, 2010. These shows were held "back to back" on the same day. Snoop won the Toy Group at 154th and almost took his first BIS. Snoop is currently #8 in the Hong Kong Top 10 ratings, and is the #3 Toy Dog, and he has only just barely got started on his show career. Wanda and I are simply ecstatic about his performance, and looking at the many photos his owner, Jeff Yeung, sent, he could not be in better physical condition. Also we want to extend our sincere congratulations to "Danny" his Handler.

SNOOP IS #8 IN HONG KONG ALL BREED RATINGS - #3 HONG KONG TOY DOG

Snoop did not come from an Arkansas or Tennessee puppy mill, but is the product of 40 years of Saint Lazar carefully planned line breeding using the principles of Mr. Lloyd Brackett.

"Without God's blessing I look for no success, and for every success my prayer is, that all the glory may be given unto Him to whom it is properly due. If people would but give all the glory to God and regard his creatures as but unworthy instruments my heart would rejoice. Alas too frequently the praise is bestowed upon the creature. "  Gen. Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson, 31 July 1862.

CH. SAINT LAZAR'S RING OF FIRE - "CASH"
STANDARD MANCHESTER
TAKES TERRIER "GROUP 2" IN MA 1/16/10
GROUP 3, 1/17 & 1/18/10

The awesome boy pictured above taking a Terrier Group Placement 9/20/09, Ch. Saint Lazar's Ring of Fire, "Cash", triumphed over all the Standard Manchesters at the prestigious Montgomery County PA Terrier Specialty October 4, 2009. Cash went on to show his heart out in the Terrier Group ring. Every top ranked Terrier in the USA and from other countries were entered, and the well known Terrier Judge Peter Green selected six dogs as his finalist, which did not include the #1 Fox Terrier in the breed, who is also ranked as the #8 dog in the nation, but did include CASH. Nope, he did not get a placement, but to even make the "cut" with such stupendous competition, and under such a knowledgeable Judge, is sufficient for Cash's Breeders, Wanda & Charlie Walker,  and for Cash's Co-owners, Dr. Roger Travis, and Patricia Hall. With no apologies to Jeri Hobbs, THANK YOU LORD for your continuing blessing of Saint Lazar and those very decent people who own, co-own, and show the very best Manchester Terriers on Planet Earth - SAINT LAZAR.

SAINT LAZAR'S AMAZIN RAISIN

We don't show much now days, age, incompetent Judges, and outrageous entry fees, in that order, are some of the reasons. However, the quality of Saint Lazar show dogs has continued to improve, and with GOD'S continued blessing, quality will get better and better until we simply can't physically be Breeders. So those who appreciate the best continue to come to Saint Lazar when they desire to go forward with the absolute best Toy Manchester gene pool on planet Earth. Madonna Lee of Cocoa Beach, FL, our longtime friend, is one who not only appreciates the best, but can present a dog in the ring as good as I have seen anywhere. Madonna is pictured above with her Saint Lazar's Amazin Raisin, call name "Macy", accepting the Best of Variety (Breed) ribbon for defeating all the other TMT's. One of our major detractors would not even face Macy the third day and failed to show up. I would not be surprised if Macy is not another Saint Lazar Best in Show girl, look out Topaz! Just look at that stunning girl, GOD is so good, and we give HIM 100% of the credit.

"SWIFT" LOVES ON DR. SHRIVER

Saint Lazar's Swift loves on our Vet, Dr. Kristian Shriver, just after he has finished her exam for her Health Certificate for her Continental flight to Boston on Friday. She was the hit of the Office, showing no shyness or fear, but loving everyone, and her tail liked to have fallen off from wagging. I sent some Vet visit photos to her new owner, and I mentioned I was experiencing a severe case of "sellers remorse". But I suffer that with virtually every pup that leaves here. The curse of producing the very best on Planet Earth. Dr. Shriver is a super competent Vet and he misses nothing. Carol is the Vet Tech looking on from the right, and she has such a great touch with all of their Patients. We originally met Dr. Shriver when we had a critical emergency in 2002 with Swift's Mom, Serena. Dr. Shriver was a GOD sent blessing and his treatment of Serena had her back "good as new" in short order. Serena went on to a sterling show career, and of course she is one of those very rare Toy Manchester females to earn the Breeder coveted AMTC award as Brood Bitch of the Year, for producing numerous AKC Champions. Swift is the smallest member of the "Rat Pack", so named by Gene Caron, and who are pictured further down this page. She is the one on the left side.

BEAUTIFUL GIRL AVAILABLE TO A GOOD HOME

Pictured above is Ch. Saint Lazar's Diamond Lil COM Ret., born 5/6/04. This magnificent gal has no less than three (3) AMTC Stud Dogs of the Year in her pedigree, and she has produced magnificent pups, including BISS Ch. Saint Lazar's Topaz. Topaz is the only Manchester, Toy or Standard, to win a Best in Show as a puppy (age 9 months), and that from the Puppy Class! We have retired Lil and we are looking for a home where she will be loved and appreciated.  She is very affectionate, intelligent, and comes from a bloodline that no other kennel/breeder can even approach in quality. We will charge a very modest fee for her if you qualify as a "good home". Give us a call if you are interested, (706) 468-0220.

BEAUTIFUL BOY AVAILABLE TO A GOOD HOME

The magnificent boy pictured above is Ch. Saint Lazar's Indiana Jones COM Ret. His Dad, Ch. Saint Lazar's Lance HOF SDY COM, is one of the finest Toy Manchester's to grace this planet, and is of course an American Manchester Terrier Club Stud Dog of the Year. Indy's Granddad, and his Great Granddad are also both AMTC Stud Dogs of the Year. No one but Saint Lazar can produce a Toy Manchester that can equal this guy's pedigree. Indy also has produced a number of pups who have achieved their Championship title, hence the COM, which stands for AMTC Certificate of Merit. Indy was born 12-14-04 and spent the first 5 months of his life in the house. However, he loves his freedom and is perfectly content in the kennel and running in the yard when the weather is good. He is best suited for a home where he can continue to enjoy running and playing. He is a fine dog that needs a home that will appreciate him, and he will be modestly priced for the right family. Give us a call for more information, (706) 468-0220. See Indy montage by Gene Caron below.

This very nice montage of Indy was sent to us by our good friend, Gene Caron. The image on the right is Indy at six months of age. The left image was taken by Gene a few months ago. As you can see, Indy matured into a fine example of a "totally correct" male Toy Manchester Terrier. One can easily see how he handily defeated 28 TMT's in Asheville, NC a while back. Thanks Gene for this nifty montage!

THE TWO FINEST MANCHESTERS CURRENTLY BEING SHOWN

SEE THE YOU TUBE VIDEOS HERE COMMERCIAL FREE

THANK YOU PAT HALL FOR PROVIDING THIS INFORMATION.

It is very easy to see looking at these videos why "Cash" is taking Group Placements, it should not be too long until he picks up his first Best In Show. Looking at Marcelo Chagas showing Cash & Topaz, it is also easy to see how Topaz picked up her first Best in Show at the tender age of 9 months, and a 3rd Place in the Toy Group in Philadelphia. It's pretty obvious in this video the Judge really liked her. We are so grateful for our friends, Dr. Roger Travis and Patricia Hall for what they have done with their co-ownerships on this outstanding pair. There is not a "Handler" around that can exceed Marcelo's professionalism. We will be happy to meet any competition in the ring with Cash & Topaz.

Ch. Saint Lazar's Zorro in the 58.3 degree Thanksgiving day sunshine.

Saint Lazar's Derby Pie looking for a chance to pounce on the bone his sister Brandy is chewing off to the left. We have had several days of rain and the guys and gals are glad to get out on this sunny Wednesday, 12/16 even if it is a bit cool at 55 degrees. This fine young boy is maturing very nicely and I am well pleased with his show training.

Gene Caron strikes again with this nifty montage!

"Take us to a dog show, we will show that Topaz and Cash a thing or two"!

PLAYING ON A WARM AUTUMN DAY

Pictured today, 11/21, from top to bottom are Saint Lazar's Erroll Flynn, Derby Pie, and Berry Pie (Patootie). They haven't been out of their kennel runs for a couple of days, so they have plenty of pent up energy. Berry has just about worried Derby to death heckling him to play with her. Derby's sister, "no name", and Gracie are off to the side chewing on bones. This is our first image to be published from our new Canon EOS 7D Digital Camera, which arrived Thursday. I got it in a kit with Canon's new, and very outstanding EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens. This lens is just about perfect for photographing dogs in the yard. The 7D is really just a sophisticated computer, and even with my many years of experience with Canon equipment, there is going to be a good learning curve in order to do it's many new features justice. I parted with the boat in order to make this purchase, and I don't regret it one bit. Thank you LORD!

CHAMPION #53 SINCE DECEMBER 2004
WELL OVER 200 THE PAST 4 DECADES

CHAMPION SAINT LAZAR'S BIGG DOGG SNOOP

We received a call from our good friend in Hong Kong, Jeff Yeung, yesterday, Monday November 2nd. Jeff told Wanda that Snoop showed his heart out at two shows in Hong Kong this past Halloween weekend, which resulted in Snoop gaining his Championship title. Snoop also went on to take a very prestigious Toy Group 4 in one of the most competitive Toy Dog entries on Planet Earth. Jeff, Wanda and I are deeply appreciative of how you have taken this pup, loved him, trained him impeccably, and now with the able assistance of your Handler, "Danny", put him solidly on the Map in Hong Kong and greater Asia. You have been so gracious to keep us posted on his progress, and to regularly supply us with photos and videos. We look forward to hearing about Snoops further progress in the International rings

SAINT LAZAR IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Montage provided by Ilona Cerna - Czech Republic

Several years ago we developed a friendship with Ilona Cerna in the Czech Republic who is an outstanding breeder and exhibitor of West Highland White Terriers in Europe. Ilona desired to obtain a quality Saint Lazar show quality female, but for various reasons we have not been able to get one to her. We did send her our Ch. Saint Lazar's Cory on loan to show. Ilona did so well with him on the European continent, that we gratefully extended a co-ownership to her. She subsequently obtained Toyleen, an ETT from Norway I believe, and the two beautiful pups pictured above, Awerill & Arrigo are the result of bringing Toyleen and Cory together. They are magnificent pups and are a compliment to Ilona's knowledge, and also to the Norwegian genes. Ilona took Cory to Championships in the Republic of San Marion (Europe's oldest Republic), Poland, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, and of course International Champion. See Cory page. Thanks a million Ilona!

THEY GROW UP SO FAST!

A real montage masterpiece from a SUPER friend - Gene Caron

Our very good friend, Gene Caron, put together this fine montage of Grandchild #5, Lauren Walker, age 15 as of September 5th. Lauren is shown on her 15th birthday last Saturday in the lower right. The photo of her in the lower left was taken here in October 1999, and that is probably Ch. Saint Lazar's Jade MCOM. she is holding. Jade is retired and now living with our friends, Margie & Ron Ferguson. When I particularly like a puppy, I will refer to it as a "Jade" puppy, the absolute highest compliment Charlie Walker can apply to a Toy Manchester. The middle photo is with Raisin and was taken April 4, 2008. Gracious what a difference 17 months makes in a young lady's maturity. Wanda and I are so proud of Lauren, her brother & sister, and her parents, Vicki & Marty, particularly their family commitment to our LORD.

A Gene Caron montage

Half sisters, Topaz is a "Best in Show" Toy Manchester, the only Manchester Terrier, Toy or Standard, to ever achieve this stupendous honor from the Puppy Class. One would have to be blind not to see the family resemblance.

WE NEVER FORGET

Montage by Gene Caron

You can see the Great Ones page here. Of course Lance is still around, hale & hardy, enjoying retirement.

Wanda & Charles Walker of Saint Lazar have been breeding and showing Toy Manchester Terriers for over 40 years. We produce the finest for Pet or Show, give us a call. We are non-commercial hobby breeders specializing in the very best for companion homes, but we back up to no one in the show ring.

SAINT LAZAR IS EXCEEDINGLY BLESSED AT THE AMTC EVENTS IN OKLAHOMA CITY IN LATE JUNE

SAINT LAZAR PUPPY MONTAGE

A Gene Caron masterpiece montage - Thanks as always Gene!

Saint Lazar's Sapphire, "Sophie" aka, "Sock Stealer", pictured above, lives with Helen & Paul Baker in sunny Redwood City, CA. Regular visitors will remember that she lives with Sasha the Doberman. Helen writes that Sophie continues to be the "Boss". She is our Saint Lazar's Morganite's sister, and you can see how excellent she is. Margie, she is a "Jade" granddaughter, and there is no question looking at her. She is "show" quality folks! Thanks Helen & Paul for this nice photo.

BISS CHAMPION SAINT LAZAR'S TOPAZ with her mentor, Patricia Hall, who showed her to BEST OF WINNERS at the AMTC National Specialty 2009 in Oklahoma City, 6-25-09. I purchased the 52 ct. flawless London Blue Topaz pendant around Topaz neck from a supplier I like in Thailand as a reward for her Best In Show win back in May. Needless to say, Wanda has had one equally as nice for quite some time, and earrings, and bracelet, and ring. I know where my bread is buttered. New TOPAZ PAGE HERE. Topaz is the only Puppy Manchester Terrier, Toy or Standard, to ever win a Best in Show, and from the Puppy Class no less!

Photo by Gene Caron - one of over 500 - What a guy!

WANDA WALKER - Recipient of American Kennel Club Medallion for OUTSTANDING SPORTSMANSHIP 2008 AWARDED 6/26/09. Wanda was seated with our friend of nearly 30 years, fellow AMTC member, and licensed AKC Judge (He got his license the hard way, and he knows his breeds) Rodney Herner. The plaques are for the Brood Bitch Of The Year Award 2008, a tie with our Serena and Clarice. The huge medallion around Wanda's neck is the Hall of Fame Award for Ch. Saint Lazar Strikes Back HOF SDY MCOM, one of our many, many Hall of Fame members. Thank you LORD for blessing Wanda and Saint Lazar!

Ch. Saint Lazar's Serena BBY COM, AMTC BROOD BITCH OF THE YEAR 2008 with Kes, a pup from her second litter when she was residing with Karen & Rex Bristol who provided this nifty photo.  In my heart I knew she had the potential to be an AMTC Brood Bitch of the Year, and now she is. She produced our magnificent Ch. Saint Lazar's Diamonds R Forever, "Diamond", and we intend to repeat that breeding. There is already a waiting list. Thank you again Karen & Rex! Thank you LORD for all the AMTC Brood Bitches of the Year you have blessed us with, no one else is even remotely close. Here is how the LORD gave us such consistent quality time after time.

We have been members of the American Manchester Terrier Club for about 34 years and to the best of my knowledge no one has ever taken a tie from the same kennel with two superb females for Brood Bitch of the Year award. These awards were achieved on merit just doing our normal everyday thing. Of course those in the club know full well that these, and the Stud Dog of the Year award, can be manipulated by "kennel packing" and placing pups with cronies, etc., etc., and they know who and how they are doing it. I am very proud to say that Saint Lazar has never stooped to these despicable tactics, our many, many awards are all won on the un-manipulated merit of the dogs. Thank you LORD for your goodness and mercy.

Montage by Gene Caron

Champion Saint Lazar's Clarice BBY COM, AMTC BROOD BITCH OF THE YEAR 2008, now owned in Honorable Retirement by Liliana & Dean Murfield, along with her Son, "Nemo", she could not be in a finer home. Thank you folks for this photo taken 12/23/07.

NOTE: ALTHOUGH WE MAKE A "BIG DEAL" ABOUT SHOW QUALITY, THE FACT IS 99% OF OUR PUPS GO TO PET HOMES, AND TO FAMILIES WHO APPRECIATE QUALITY. OUR PUPS COST NO MORE THAN THOSE FROM PLACES THAT GIVE NO THOUGHT OR STUDY TO THE BREEDING PROCESS. READ THIS PLEASE.

When you look at those demeanors and teeth, it's hard to believe that this is just normal Toy Manchester playing. All the dogs love to zoom and play hard after they have their supper. This evening I let the Lil pups out and they are running wide open, including Flynn on the former broken leg. In fact none in the litter can catch him. The pair above are Grace O'Malley (left) and Fletcher Christian (right). A split second after this photo, they jumped up and took off for another circuit. LORD how I love em, thanks a million!

Obviously Garnet is following in her mother's paw steps. We have never bred a finer pair than these two, and this was only Amethyst's first litter!

Montage by Gene Caron

Isn't the resemblance in Garnet, above, and her Cousin Morganite uncanny. Nope, not a bit, this is a result of 40 years of Toy Manchester breeding experience and carefully planned "line breeding" using the well proven principles of the late genius, Mr. Lloyd C. Brackett. We don't "roll the dice" at Saint Lazar, but we carefully consider each mating. As I have written before, does it go 100% flawless, no, but the percentage of success and consistency is unrivaled. Thank you LORD! (It's hard to beat Canon "L" lens for consistent quality also. All four of the above photos were captured using our 70-200mm f:/4L Canon lens)

EASTER PUPPY PICTURES - FABULOUS FIVE

Wanda made us a light lunch right after we got home from Church and then she said she would go get the Diamond Lil - Zander pups from the kennel and help me get some photos. They will be seven weeks old tomorrow, 4/13. We normally keep pups in the house to about 8 to 9 weeks of age, but we have had to be away from home so much lately that we have kept them in the kennel. We have plenty of room and they are perfectly safe and comfortable. Plus they are eating like horses and the "cleanup" task is much easier in the kennel. Anyway, she started out to get the pups and she discovered they had figured out how to get out the "door" into their concrete exterior run. They were enjoying the sun and having a good time, but I think this is the earliest that we remember pups coming out on their own. Wanda couldn't resist taking them to the front yard for their first yard play time . You can see the result above. For years I have bragged on the temperament of our guys and gals and how much of it is attributed to genetics, but there is no doubt we have outdone ourselves with this litter, they are very exuberant. I can't remember a more outgoing litter than this in the past forty years. They are brothers and sisters to our Morgan who took a big show win in Perry, GA yesterday, but a different litter of course.  Thank you LORD for this fine bunch, The Fabulous Five!

ANOTHER BEST IN SHOW FROM THE "OLD" DAYS

The very nice boy shown above with Pam DeHetre is Ch. Saint Lazar's Monterrey Jack. this photo is from 1986, and Jack & Pam got a Best In Show on this show circuit. Jack is the boy who, at barely age 6 months, went Best of Winners from the Puppy Class at the two AKC Centennial Shows in Philadelphia in the Fall of 1984. His littermate, Ch. Saint Lazar's Romano, went Winners Bitch both days. The Judges were William "Billy" Kendick, who also Judged at the Fiftieth Anniversery AKC show, and Frank Sabella, who also gave Jack Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Variety. There has never been a win of this caliber before, and there will not be again. As a side note. Pam is now an AKC licensed Judge, and she did not have to get her license at Dollar General as is now the norm for most Judges. Pam knows dogs, and is a fine gal. It is so sad that the jerks that were in charge at the American Manchester Terrier Club prevented her from rejoining the club after she inadvertently failed to get her dues in on time. I will soon be posting a "mea culpa" about my support for some of current regime. There does not seem to be any possibility of them doing the "right thing" about Pam when they tolerate a President who has consistently thumbed her nose at the ethics of the AMTC, and a Treasurer who has the best documented record of "kennel packing" in the AMTC.  Jacks ashes rest in peace on the mantle at Pam's home. He was a great dog, but if you look at the photos on these pages, you will see that 25 years later, we are currently producing TMT's superior to Jack. See Connor below.

Montage by Gene Caron

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Although the membership and Board of Directors of the American Manchester Terrier Club has given it's blessing to commercial intercourse with puppy mills by it's members and Officers, Saint Lazar has not, and will not, engage in that despicable business. The same has also condoned flagrant "kennel packing" by members and Officers. Saint Lazar has not, and will never condone nor engage in that repugnant activity.

A NEW MURRY STORY
Longtime visitors, and there are a bunch, will recall that we had a "Murry Page" for several years. Our friend, Bob Lazar of Richmond, VA, purchased a male Toy from us about five years ago, and he subsequently sent us several stories about Murry and his interaction with the Lazar family. Now we have a new essay from Bob and I have resurrected the Murry page and added Bob's latest story. Click here to go to the Murry Page. Thanks a million Bob!

TWO PRETTY GIRLS!

The problem with Grandchildren is that they grow up. Samantha (19) used to come see or stay with us frequently, but now she is out of school and working, we don't see her too often. So I don't get take photos of her and pups much anymore. She is here today with her mother, our Daughter, Dawn, to bring Wanda a birthday present. Some things never change though, she went straight to the puppies in the house and started petting each of them. I happened to have my background muslin and studio strobes set up, so I persuaded her to pose for me. Are not these two pretty young gals? (12-14-08) (Camera Canon EOS 40D, 3  Alien Bee 800 strobes, Exposure set to manual 1/125 second at f/11, ISO 100, color balance 5900 Kelvin manually set, with a Amvona provided 10' x 12' "Tempanillo" muslin backdrop.)

"Wanda, please don't pull my tail!"

Saint Lazar Receives Seven Certificates Of Merit
Saint Lazar received seven Certificates Of Merit from the American Manchester Terrier Club for 2008 for Dogs & Bitches who produced two or more AKC Chamions, they are;
CH. SAINT LAZAR'S STRIKES BACK HOF SDY MCOM
STRIKER ALSO WAS INDUCTED INTO THE AMTC HALL OF FAME
CH. SAINT LAZAR'S INDIANA JONES MCOM
CH. SAINT LAZAR'S J.R. EWING COM
CH. SAINT LAZAR'S ZORRO COM
CH. SAINT LAZAR'S ALEXANDRITE COM
CH. SAINT LAZAR'S CLARICE BBY COM
CH. SAINT LAZAR'S SERENA BBY COM
I think a comment is in order concerning the above acronyms. The latest fad is place is to place an acronym before or after a dogs name if it breaths. Used to be before dog showing became a "business", the only abbreviations used were for Champion (Ch.) or Obedience Titles (a great accomplishment and honor). Then we began to see HOF, which means American Manchester Terrier Club Hall of Fame member. Saint Lazar has numerous members. Then came Certificate of Merit (COM), ad infinitum. We can't be outdone at Saint Lazar, so we have added to the list, we certainly have this right, we have Stud Dog of the Year (SDY), of which we have had many, SSDY (Sire of Stud Dog of the Year) because it's his genes that caused his Son to be a SDY, SMSDY (Sire of Multipe Stud Dogs of theYear) as in Klay who, as the most outstanding TMT Stud dog ever (Lance might argue), has produced multiple Stud Dogs of the Year , MCOM (Mutiple Certificates of Merit), all of which hardly anyone else has done. I am sure next time one of our puppy guys learns to hike his leg, we will come up with something for that, probably HHL. We are rightly proud of the accomplishments of our guys and gals, but all of this is just to impress the non-cognoscenti. The fancy knows who produces what, and GOD has blessed Saint Lazar way more than we can ask or even think.

Ch. Saint Lazar's Klay HOF SDY SMSDY (11/15/93 - 12/7/08) - The finest Toy Manchester Terrier stud dog ever, period! His son, Ch. Saint Lazar's Ace Ventura SDY SSDY, is a Stud Dog of The Year, and he in turn sired a Stud Dog of the Year, Ch. Saint Lazar's Lance HOF SDY COM, who is already a Hall Of Fame member. Take a look at the photo above of Klay in his younger days, he passed to the bosom of the LORD on 12/7/08.

TOY MANCHESTER PICTORIAL BOOK AVAILABLE

We have just published an 8 X 10 hard cover book with dust jacket entitled SAINT LAZAR TOY MANCHESTER TERRIERS. It is available for order from www.blurb.com. It is a reprise of some of the photos that have appeared on our web page, but with some not seen before, all with captions, plus some commentary text. The front cover is shown above. This is a "vanity" book and a test of self-publishing, but we will be following in the future with a much more comprehensive publication entitled THE DEFINITIVE TOY MANCHESTER TERRIER, which will cover all aspects of the Toy Manchester Terrier. We are striving to see that it will be useful for new owners, current owners, and those who may simply appreciate a quality book covering the Toy Variety.

SPRING 2010 PUPPIES PLANNED

We normally have a modest waiting list for pups, please call for more information. The female puppy, pictured right at age 12 weeks, is an example of the super quality Saint Lazar puppies. Click on the photo for a larger picture. Sales details on the "Pups for Sale" page.

CONSIDERING A NEW PUP? READ THIS.

There have been fifty-three new Championships of record earned by Saint Lazar, and Saint Lazar owners since 12/04, and well over 200 the past 40 years, and there are about to be several more. Whether your interest is in showing, or you just want a quality companion dog, then you would be well served to talk to a show kennel, regardless of which breed you like. Show people who are members of the parent breed club, such as the American Manchester Terrier Club, are the folks to consult. Ideally, they will have a medium to large size kennel, as that is where you find the healthy gene pools, and the superior socialization.  Investigate carefully, be sure you are considering someone who has a "planned" line breeding program, and can show you their documented breeding "plan" for several future generations. Ask to see the kennel facility, and both parents of the pup you might be considering. Also beware of "newspaper" ads and the proverbial backyard breeders. Saint Lazar did not become the #1 Breeder by "random" matings, we always have a plan. Visitors are frequent at Saint Lazar, and you are welcome too.

Saturday, 2-16-08, was a fine 70 degree time, and I had some of our guys and gals out of the kennel runs to play and get petted. There are at least 3 males in the 10 enjoying the sun above. Luke, J.R. Ewing, and Striker. We even have a female in heat, yet these fellows are so well disciplined and well tempered, there is no problem. But, I still keep an eye on them. I later rotated two more batches out for fun and petting. You will not find better than these on the Planet.

Those magnificent creatures pictured in our yard above did not happen by accident. They are the result of forty years of breeding experience and a careful adherence to the principles of "planned breeding". If you are looking for the very best Toy Manchester Terrier available, not the most expensive, but the best, you would be well served to take a moment to read the quotation below.

A QUOTATION FROM LLOYD C. BRACKETT - THE FATHER OF "PLANNED BREEDING".

"In the dog game those who criticize the system of line breeding far outnumber its proponents. This is true for several reasons. There is a continual influx of beginners in breeding dogs, people who have never before mated one animal to another, or made any study of the subject. In their ignorance they believe that mating two dogs with "pedigrees", especially if both are winners, or better yet, "Champions", is all there is to it. Then, there are a multitude of breeders who refuse to take the time to make any study of genetics, who want only to breed dogs to sell and make money, and these have no interest in breed improvement through years of planned effort. Again, we have the many hit-or-miss breeders who hope for the good luck which sometimes strikes novices who by sheer accident come up with a real "topper" or two. In listing the opponents of closed-up breeding, one should not fail to mention owners of stud dogs, hungry for stud fees.

Fortunately there are in almost all breeds of dogs a very few fanciers intent upon consistently producing dogs superior to the average of the breed. Many of these know that the quickest and most certain way to do this is by line breeding".

SAINT LAZAR'S RECORD OF LINE BREEDING, CONSISTENTLY PRODUCING DOGS "SUPERIOR TO THE AVERAGE OF THE BREED" WHETHER FOR PET OR SHOW, IS WITHOUT PEER, THANKS TO MR. BRACKETT.

SAINT LAZAR IS A NON-COMMERCIAL "HOBBY" BREEDER

I have been training the show dogs to open their mouths for the Judges to examine their teeth and bite. All I need to do  now is get them to stand up and "stack" when they open up. Luke (left) has just lost a baby tooth, you can see the red socket where it has just fallen out. That's Honey on the right. Aren't those great choppers!

Winning is "old hat" at Saint Lazar. While poking around in the garage, I came across a box with the above awards. From the back right are American Manchester Terrier Club awards reading "Top Winning Toy Manchester Terrier", 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983. Then Kasandra went on to win the one on the front right, 1984 "Top Brood Bitch". The one on the left is for 1984 "Top Stud Dog Toy". No, we didn't breed either of these dogs, we went to the top kennel in the nation, and purchased these fine creatures. By 1981, using the best genes available, and carefully planning our matings, Saint Lazar was the top Toy kennel in the nation, and has never looked back. To produce the finest Toy Manchesters in the world takes a "plan", not just willy nilly breeding a bitch in heat to any available dog. It's the genes that count, not the "show" record, which can be, and is so often purchased in this day and time. There are several more boxes in the garage with similar awards over the past decades.

It's Friday night near 10 PM and Honey, Raisin, and Luke have exhausted themselves playing, zooming through the den and kitchen, growling and carrying on something fierce. Finally they have snuggled up against Wanda who is reading a book on the den sofa. One last visit outside to the pine straw, and in our beds we go. I can't believe we have three dogs in the house.

MORE OLDIES
(Click on photos for larger size)

We appreciate the emails we get expressing how much folks enjoy seeing the "old" TMT photos. They bring back great memories for us great-grandparents. The above photo is of our eldest child, Dawn Walker Hunter, now age 50. This is summer of 1967, and that is Idyl Dale Acres Georgia Girl in her lap. "Georgia" came from Karla Christman of McHenry, IL. My dad loaned me $100 to buy her, and we drove to McHenry on July 4th, 1967 and got her at age 6 mo. We were living in Indianapolis at the time.

This is child number 2, Charlotte Walker Rogers, who is now a 44 yr old grandmother with four grandsons. "Georgia" took to our family like a duck to water, and we loved her dearly. Unfortunately, she was a terrible whelper, and not many of her pups survived. Georgia was responsible for us learning the hard way that it is essential to know the gene pool from which you obtain a puppy. These photos were taken with my Minolta Autochord Twin Lens Reflex. I am certain I used Kodak Verichrome Pan processed 1:1 in Microdol in my basement darkroom. These are from prints I made with my Besseler 23C enlarger. Man do I love digital, but it was fun watching those prints come up in the developer.
